MINISTRIES

Serve in Worship

Altar Guild: The altar guild works behind the scenes to ensure that everything for the service is ready to go. They set the altar, put out fresh linens, and help clean up after the service. If you are interested or have any questions about this ministry then please contact Sandra Womack.

Chalice Bearers: The ministry also plays an important part of our Sunday liturgy. Chalice Bearers may have to acolyte as well from time to time, but their main job is to distribute the wine during Communion.

Choir: We take music seriously here at St. James the Less. It is a vital part of our worshipping community, and we are blessed to have passionate and faithful members of our choir. They are led by Mr. Bob Wiesen, our Organist and Choir Director.

Lector: As a lector, you are responsible for reading the Old and New Testament lessons, and leading the congregation in the Psalm for the day. The lector also reads the Prayers of the People. If you enjoy reading aloud in public then consider joining this ministry.

Ushers: Likely the first person you meet when you walk into our church is one of our ushers. They make sure that all who enter our church feel welcomed. Along with handing out bulletins, they also help newcomers learn a little more about our church.

Parish Life

Hospitality Committee: We have a group of parishioners who are dedicated to making sure every event we host is not only fun but is also well run. If you love hosting parties and events, and like working with a team then please reach out to Dari Shadwick.

Leadership

Vestry: This is our governing body which works with the clergy to further the mission and ministry of the church. Those who are elected serve a three-year term.

Christian Formation

Bible Study: Every Wednesday we gather in the Parish Hall at 10 a.m. to discuss a chapter of the Bible. There is coffee and a great discussion every week. We can't promise that we stay on topic all the time, but you'll always have fun and learn a lot. We also offer a service of Monday Prayer at 9:30 a.m. to anyone who wants to join us before our class starts at 10 a.m.

Alpha: Every fall, we run the Alpha Course, which is a popular video-based, discussion class done in one of our member's home. It delves into the core beliefs of the Christian faith, and is great for those who have been in the church all their lives, or would like to know more about the faith. Our hope is that all of our members will have participated in Alpha. For more information, talk to Fr. Wesley.

Prayer Ministry: We meet every Wednesday night at the church at 6 p.m. Usually our time together is centered around a Eucharist service with extra time devoted for prayer. We are using Anglican prayer beads while we pray. We would love for you to come join us as we pray for our nation, this community, our church, and for ourselves. Fr. Randy is our contact person.

Outreach

Church in the Yard: A few times a year, we serve the homeless of Nashville at The Church of the Holy Trinity's Church in the Yard. We participate in the Eucharist that celebrated in the church yard, and then hand out sandwiches that our parishioners made. We will usually make over 200 sandwiches. This is a wonderful ministry, and we hope that you will join us. We meet on the fifth Sunday of the month (March 29, May 31, August 30) at 2 p.m. at Holy Trinity ( 615 6th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37203 ).

Christian Cooperative Ministry: We are partnering with this Madison-based organization that serves the poor in our community. This is an important way that we serve those in our own community.
