Dear St. James the Less,                                                                              3/25/20

We had a successful first Sunday online with only a few minor issues. We are expanding what we offer online starting this week. We now have opportunities to virtually gather on Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday over the next few weeks.

Wednesday Evening Prayer & Lenten Book Discussion: We invite you to join us Wednesdays on Zoom for a short service and then a discussion about Max Lucado’s book No Wonder They Call Him the Savior. We will meet from 6:30-7:15 p.m. You will need to log in with our meeting ID which is: 873-949-319 (Note it is a new ID number). This ID can be used for this meeting over the next few weeks, but it is different from our other Zoom meetings. You can access Zoom here, or look up Zoom on Google, then click “Join a Meeting” in the right-hand corner and then put in the ID. You can also find a recap on our YouTube channel found here.

Thursday Bible Study: We hope you will join us on Zoom for a conversation on the readings for the upcoming Sunday. We will meet from 10-11 a.m. You can click here or search https://zoom.us/join and then log in with the meeting ID which is 399-976-036. You can access the readings here.

Sunday Worship: We are ready to go for another round next Sunday, and we hope you will join us. Again, there are two ways that you can connect with us:

  1. Zoom Video Chat: You can click here or search https://zoom.us/join and then log in with the meeting ID which is 710-971-345 (Note it is a new ID number). This will allow us to see each other. I do ask that you mute yourself during the service because there will be a lot of feedback, and we will be streaming on Facebook as well. There will be time after the service for us to check-in with one another for a “Virtual Coffee Hour.”

  2. Facebook Live: You can also watch on Facebook. Click here or search: https://www.facebook.com/stjamesmadison. You do not have to be a member of Facebook to watch. We will then post it to our YouTube channel after the service for those of you who want to watch later.

Book of Common Prayer: We will be doing Morning Prayer found on page 79 of the BCP. If you do not have a BCP at home then you can access it online here, or there is a PDF download that you can access here. The readings for Sunday can be found here.

Church in the Yard: There is no Church in the Yard this Sunday.

Please let us know if there is a way we can help. Several parishioners have told me they are willing to get groceries and supplies for those who are elderly. Please also consider mailing in your pledge, using online bill-pay, or donating through our website here. It is our hope that we can continue to pay all our employees during this tough time. Your continued support is greatly appreciated.

In Christ,
Wesley+

Dear St. James the Less,                                                                              3/21/20

We are getting ready for our first online Sunday service at 9:30 a.m. We hope you will join us. There are two ways that you can connect with us on Sunday.

  1. Zoom Video Chat: You can click here or search https://zoom.us/join and then log in with the meeting ID which is 260-345-912. This will allow us to see each other. I do ask that you mute yourself during the service because there will be a lot of feedback, and we will be streaming on Facebook as well. Hopefully, there will be time after the service that we can unmute and check-in with one another. We are using the free version of Zoom which allows for 40 minutes, and then it’ll cut off.

  2. Facebook Live: You can also watch on Facebook. Click here or search: https://www.facebook.com/stjamesmadison. You do not have to be a member of Facebook to watch. We will then try to post it to our YouTube channel after the service for those of you who want to watch later.

Book of Common Prayer: We will be doing Morning Prayer found on page 79 of the Book of Common Prayer. If you do not have a BCP at home then you can access it online here, or there is a PDF download that you can access here. The readings for Sunday can be found here.

Church in the Yard: We won’t know until Monday if Fr. Bill will need any sandwiches for Church in the Yard on Sunday, March 29th. He has cancelled the service but has been handing out sandwiches by himself to anyone who comes by. We will send out an email to you all if he does need sandwiches from us.

Wednesdays on Zoom: We invite you to join us Wednesdays on Zoom to catch up and talk about Max Lucado’s book No Wonder They Call Him the Savior. You will need to log in with our meeting ID which is: 173-101-063. This ID is the same one that will be used every week (Note this is a different ID than what is used on Sunday). You can access Zoom here, or look up Zoom on Google, then click “Join a Meeting” in the right-hand corner and then put in the ID. We will meet from 6:30-7:00 p.m. for the next few weeks. You can also find a recap on our YouTube channel found here.

As I said in my last email we know times are tough for all of us, but we do ask that you please consider mailing your tithe to the church, creating online bill-pay through your bank, or using our online giving option on our website that can be found here. We are so thankful for your generosity, and continued support of this church.

I hope to see you tomorrow morning at 9:30 in the morning!

In Christ,
Wesley+

_________________________________________________________

Dear St James Family,

I hope everyone is avoiding crowds and being cautious in this trying time. The vestry and Father Wesley are communicating regularly to be sure we are making the right decisions for our church and members. Please know that the decision to suspend in-person services was not an easy one to make but we value the health and safety of our members above all else. Let this be a reminder that God’s church is not a building, but rather the people. We are the body of Christ.

“You are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.  In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.” - Ephesians 2:19-22

The virtual service will be available on Facebook, please communicate if you have any issues accessing it. We will continue to update you as this is an ever changing situation.

The decisions we, as a vestry, have to make include financial decisions. It is our hope that everyone continues to fulfill their pledges. This will ensure a smooth transition back to normal operation once it is recommended to do so. If you have questions about how to give, please reach out to myself or Father Wesley and we will explain the different options.

On a personal note, I am feeling the stress and emotional effects of social isolation. We are a highly social church community so I am sure others are feeling the effects too. I find that video calls are an excellent tool for me to get some socialization in our current ‘virtual’ world. Here are some suggestions:

FaceTime: Available on all Apple devices; iPhones, iPads and Apple computers. It’s just like making a phone call!

MarcoPolo: This is an app available on all smart phones. It allows for video calls across different smart phone types, like from a Samsung to an iPhone.

Facebook Messenger: You will see a video camera icon on the top of your chat window. This can be used on any device that has a camera where you use Facebook Messenger.

Zoom: Father Wesley is using this platform for Wednesday discussion group and we’re going to try it for Sunday worship. It can be used on any computer, tablet or smart phone with a camera. The free version allows video conference calls up to 40 minutes with up to 100 participants. This is a great option for bible study!

Lastly, if anyone is unable to get out and needs assistance in the form of grocery or meal delivery, please let Father Wesley or myself know. If you would like a ‘virtual visit’, please let us know. If you would like to help with this ministry, please let us know. If you have prayer requests, let us know. I have faith that we can come together (virtually) to support each other during this time of trial. If God is with us, who can be against us? And I believe very strongly that God is with St. James the Less.

God’s Peace,
Erin High Bell
